Transfer race between Manchester United and Arsenal heats – The giant clubs of the Premier League are ready for the transfer race for the Argentine defender.
Manchester United are stepping up their attempts to acquire Lisandro Martinez and is currently in talks with Ajax on a deal for the Argentine player.
Arsenal is also interested in the defender this summer, but the transfer fee has yet to be agreed upon.
Offers by both Premier League clubs for the 24-year-old, who spent the last three years in Amsterdam after signing from Defensa y Justicia in 2019, were rejected by Ajax.
Which is the last one?
Ajax has not signed any team for Martinez, despite offers from both Arsenal and Manchester United.
The Dutch champion has determined a transfer fee of approximately 50 million Euros for the defender who can play as a central defender or left-back.
While Arsenal’s latest offer was around 40 million Euros, they could not reach the price Ajax expected even with the bonuses.
United also offered a similar fee to this offer, but they also turned down the Red Devils.
Sources confirmed to GOAL that United is the club that is actively trying to find a deal with Ajax.
While it is believed that Arsenal has not officially withdrawn from the race for Martinez, the team currently in regular contact with the Eredivisie giant to reach a deal is United, which is close to closing the transfer.
It is reported that Ajax, which did not want to leave its player for weeks, is now willing to make a deal.
What does Martinez want?
The Argentine center-back is determined to transfer to the Premier League this summer and is asking Ajax to let him go.
He urged the Dutch team to strike a deal and reiterated his desire to transfer to England at a meeting in Amsterdam last week.
Sources close to the player say United may have a signing advantage over Arsenal due to his relationship with Eric ten Hag, who was his coach in Amsterdam before moving to Old Trafford earlier this year.
However, Martinez has never refused to sign for Arsenal and was impressed by the North London club’s vision.
Thus, the transfer race between United and Arsenal looks set to heat up in the coming days.
