Cesc Fabregas, a former Arsenal star, has revealed that he threw pizza at Sir Alex Ferguson because he lacked the courage and was afraid to defeat Manchester United’s “monsters”.
The central midfielder was a rising star at 17 when the Gunners and United faced off in another massive game at Old Trafford in the 2004/05 season.
The Red Devils had to resort to the dark arts to break Arsenal’s 49-game streak.
United won the fight 2-0 at the time, but chaos ensued in the tunnel after the match as players from both teams approached the dressing rooms.
And just at this point, Fabregas, a young football player, grabbed a slice of pizza and threw it at United’s legendary coach Sir Alex.
The Spanish football player stated that he did not dare to enter the fight in the tunnel while talking about this issue years later.
What was said?
Cesc Fabregas, one of Arsenal’s iconic stars, revealed in a new ITV4 documentary called Pass Master that he threw pizza from afar because he was afraid of United’s stars like Rio Ferdinand and Mikael Silvestre, and the pizza hit Ferguson.
The Spanish midfielder used the following statements about this event at that time:
“I quickly went to the dressing room and there was some food there and I was starving, so I grabbed a slice of pizza.
“We started hearing voices from the tunnel. I saw the actors and Arsen Wenger. There was a crowded environment.
“The first thing that came to my mind was to throw the pizza. I didn’t have the strength or the courage to go into that fight because it was like monsters there. They were huge men and I was afraid of them.
“The pizza I threw from afar went and hit Sir Alex Ferguson.”
“Ferguson was very angry after this incident”
United legend Ferdinand reminded on his Vibe with Five podcasts earlier this year that Fabregas didn’t want to shoot Sir Alex at the time.
And the legendary Scottish coach also explained that he felt great anger after the incident.
The British former center-back said, “Fabregas didn’t want to throw that pizza at Ferguson.
“When it happened, he threw it towards the door, and that’s when the pizza hit the boss.
“Ferguson was very angry after this incident, but the case was closed before it escalated any further.
“We know what kind of person he is, Fabregas wouldn’t do something like that on purpose,” he said.
